Michael Moore thinks the Democrats should turn to Hollywood for its next presidential candidate and says professional wrestler-turned-movie star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnsonwould be perfect for the role.
“Run the Rock! Run the Rock. Who do you want for commander-in-chief? I want the fucking Rock! It would scare anybody that would hurt us,” the filmmaker and activist told Variety in an interview published Monday. “Think about how safe we would be if the Rock was president.”
Although Johnson has not yet commented on Moore’s endorsement, he’s previously discussed the possibility of running for office.
“I love my country, I’m extremely patriotic and I also feel, especially now, leadership is so important, great leadership is so important, respected leadership is so important,” the star of “The Fast and the Furious” franchise said last November.
Moore, who is taking his one-man show “The Terms of My Surrender” to Broadway, said the Democrats’ apparent reluctance to back a celebrity in the race for the White House was something he’s questioned “for almost 20 years.”
“Why don’t the Democrats run Tom Hanks? Why doesn’t Oprah (Winfrey) run? Why don’t we run someone that’s beloved by the American people?” Moore asked. “People love Hollywood.”
